Dan will moderate the panel and address the topics of when and when not to conduct a freight bid and how to organize yourself to conduct a freight RFP. He will outline the steps to follow to execute a successful freight RFP and what actions need to be taken upon completion to ensure a company obtains the maximum value from this initiative. Dan Goodwill & Associates is a Toronto based Transportation Consulting practice that is focused on helping shippers source and procure freight transportation.



Danny Slaton, VP, Business Development, SMC 3

Danny will speak to the computer based tools that are available to conduct a successful LTL freight RFP. He will provide an overview of Bid$ense, a tool that SMC 3 has developed to measure and evaluate carrier proposals based on a complete set of variables including price, service, IT capabilities, financial performance and other important criteria. SMC 3, based in Atlanta, Georgia, delivers its pricing expertise to buyers and sellers of LTL freight transportation through industry data, technology tools and educational services.



Allen Thornton, Transportation Manager, Central Garden & Pet Supply Company

Allen Thornton standardized his company's LTL rates by using the CzarLite tariff. He reduced his company's LTL spend by 18 percent through the use of a freight bid. In addition, he was able to reconfigure the company's primary LTL carriers from 23 to 8. Allen will outline his company's freight bid process to achieve these results. With annual sales in excess of $1.6 billion U.S., Central Garden & Pet Company, based in Walnut Creek, California, engages in the production and marketing of products for the lawn and garden, and pet supplies industries.
