Supply Chain Management
SCOR Can Help Analyze Your Supply-Chain Operation

The Supply-Chain Council (SCC) was incorporated in 1997 as a global, not-for-profit trade association with membership open to all companies interested in improving supply-chain efficiencies through the use of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR).
SCOR is a supply-chain diagnostic tool that enables users to address, improve and communicate supply-chain management practices within and among all interested parties. It is a standard guideline used by companies worldwide to examine the configuration of their supply-chains, identify and measure metrics in the chain, determine weak links, and then work to achieve best practice.
The Councils five Technical Committees are composed of representatives from businesses around the world and SCC staff are responsible for furthering the development of the various sections of SCOR. Hence, the model is constantly being updated and improved. The Council now has an overview of the SCOR-model available in print at no cost from the SCC office.
SCC now offers workshops around the world to provide instruction on the application of the SCOR-model. These workshops have been provided to Council members and afford a comprehensive examination of the SCOR-model and the methodology for using the model. It is intended to support organizations developing a business case for supply-chain management projects, as well as those seeking more guidance on the specifics of implementing projects using SCOR. The workshop instructors detail the model with particular emphasis on metrics, review implementation strategy, and use a newly developed business case study to provide attendees with initial practice.
SCOR Workshops are only available to SCC members and attendance is limited to 30 people. SCC will also schedule in-house workshops for employees of a single company for 1-20 people.
Also noteworthy is that SCC has elected new members to its Board of Directors (SCORboard) for a two-year term, effective through 2001. Thomas J. Brunell, Vice President of Supply Chain Strategies, AVNET, has been elected Chair of the SCORboard and James Vogelsang, Captain, SC, USN, Deputy Commander, Naval Inventory Control Point, is the new Vice Chair. New members of the board include William (Skip) Grenoble, Penn State University Center for Logistics Research; Jeff Holmes, Manugistics; and John Bermudez, AMR Research. SCORboard members whose terms continue for another year include Joseph Chernay, SCC Treasurer, Bayer Corporation; Brant Slade, Oliver Wight; Bill Helming, PRTM; David Myers, QAD Inc.; Herbert Heinzel, Siemens Business Services; Michihiko (Mic) Kitakaze, Japan Business Create Co.; and KI-HO Park, Korea Management Association Consultants.
SCC is gauging interest in forming vertical industry groups within the Council. Industries being observed are aerospace and defense, pharmaceutical, automotive, and electronics. The SCORboard officially sanctioned a Special Industry Group (SIG) for aerospace and defense on May 20, 1999. The bottom line purpose of the SIG will be to facilitate improvement in aerospace and defense companies supply-chain efficiency.
SCC SIG membership is corporate. SIG members must be members of the Council. There is no limit to the number of individuals from the member company that can be involved in SCC or the Special Industry Group.
